My Counselling Journey:

My counselling journey began as a youth growing up in Saskatchewan where I became fascinated with how humans function, make choices and create changes.  My family supported this curiosity with human behaviour, but I craved more knowledge and left my small town in search of more.

Currently, I hold an MSW from Toronto Metropolitan University, a BSW from the University of Regina, and a BA in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan, so I know my way around some Canadian universities!

After graduating with my BSW , I quickly began working in the mental health field of social work where I discovered a passion for helping others confront barriers and heal trauma. I have extensive experience working with clients around ways to manage their anxiety, depression, life transition and relationship issues. As well, I have many years of experience working with a diverse population of people from different backgrounds, ages, and life experiences with a focus on mental health and justice in judicial and hospital settings.

When not working I enjoy spending time with my nieces and nephew, hiking in the mountains and spending time my micro-American bulldog, Rex (see cute picture below!).

My Approach:

As a client-centred therapist, I believe you are the captain of your ship! I offer a client-centred experience allowing you to be the director of your therapeutic journey while guiding you to meet your goals using a combination of modalities. By using a blend of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness, I hope to create a therapeutic experience that will truly meet you where you are at in your journey and help you move forward.

Together we can engage in goal-directed therapy that allows you to see results quickly while still digging deeper to address root causes. I enjoy working with individuals and groups using skill-building techniques to support adolescents and adults navigate through life events.

Comment on Diversity and Inclusion:

I believe strongly that each client comes to the counselling space with their own unique story of fighting through some kind of adversity.  In my experience working in the public sectors in both Calgary and Ontario positions, I have fought for equal treatment for marginalised populations.  As a Social Worker, I believe it is my responsibility to advocate for equal care for all people and create a positive and inclusive space to meet you in the counselling room.
